CAC provides Federal and State funded Head Start programs. Funded enrollment for both programs is 250 children. The Head Start program serves children ages 3 to 5 years old that are at or below 100% of the poverty guidelines (see Poverty Guidelines). There are limited over-income slots available. In the center-based program option, children are transported on small school buses to attend developmentally appropriate classrooms for 3 ½ hours a day, Monday through Thursday. They are involved in nutritional, educational and socialization experiences. Each classroom has a qualified teacher, center aide/driver and a parent volunteer. We offer a.m. sessions from 8:30 to 12:00 noon and p.m. sessions from 12:00 noon to 3:30 p.m. This program provides breakfast and lunch during the a.m. session and lunch and a snack for the p.m. session. The teachers in the classroom also provide home visits throughout the school year to ensure comprehensive services to the families. Services are also provided to children with special needs (see Disabilities / Mental Health). Each child receives developmental assessments, speech, hearing and vision screenings by trained staff. There is no fee for this program. We have two locations; Idaho & Piketon. For an application for this program, just click on Enrollment Application. Home-based services are also available.
Enhanced Head Start
This program is for Head Start children whose parents are working and/or in school and in need of full day childcare services. Our Enhanced Head Start classroom provides services from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. We do not provide transportation for this program. We do accept childcare vouchers from the Department of Jobs and Family Services. We also have self-pay weekly rates for parents that are over-income for childcare assistance. We provide this service at the Piketon site.
